9 Ways To Know You’re A Twitter Addict

Today I noticed some amusing trends on twitter. Topics and thoughts that come up in relation to twitter on a nearly daily basis, based on the people I’m following.

I spent some time going back through twitter posts over the last couple of weeks. I do this from time to time as a bit of a “following audit”. I look to see if there are any people I reply to particularly regularly and should learn more about. Or if there are people whose tweets I’m not that interested in, and perhaps I should stop following.

Yet I also realised how even with so little information, 140 characters a few times a day, you can start to feel like you know people. Or that you can predict something that’s going to happen today, because it happened yesterday.

My top nine

  • You recognise Robert Scoble on sight.
  • You have no interest in baseball but know that the Astros are two down in the ninth inning.
  • tinyurl.com is the only domain name in the world.
  • At least one person you are following hates twitter and is deleting their account (but not really).
  • “via web” is old hat.
  • But you can add “tw” to any word and make it a web app.
  • You know what someone’s pet is doing.
  • Someone you’ve never met is drunk.
  • You receive more updates on flight delays than you do at the airport.

I love that twitter can be both so random but have such trends. I find twitter very useful, the most effective forum out there for keeping on top of tech news and opinion. But equally enjoyable because people reveal snippets of themselves. Twitter means that you’re the first to react to a new blog post about Microsoft…and it also means you’re the first to see Henry Rollins post something random about a large truck.

I’m sure everyone else has random twitter memories or trends. What are yours?
