I have seen the Silverback site too – but had not noticed the image shift! I think that even though it is subtle that is precisely why it is so cool. Little touched like that make for interesting design

Thanks for your comment Ben. Yeah, it’s a nice simple subtle touch to implement. Of course the counter argument is that it’s possibly a little bit too subtle – 95%+ of people never resize their window so the effect might be redundant.

That’s a reasonable point. That being said, it’s such minimal code in any case that it’s not exactly adding weight to a site to include it. You could make it even sleeker by using a CSS sprite so there’s only a single image (and a single HTTP) request for all three of the background layers.
